Ennai Kathrikkai Kuzhambu | Brinjal Gravy | Ennai kathrikkai Kulambu | No onion no garlic gravy |

This kuzhambu is my mom’s recipe and also no onion no garlic gravy. It goes good with white rice. The main ingredient is the dry masala powder. When cooked in tamarind gravy and gingelly oil, that combinaion makes me mouth watering. My mom used to make this on weekends with potato fry. Also i remember having this on a trip. Ingredients:

  • To roast & grind to dry powder:
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1/4 cup
  • Chana dal – 1/4 cup
  • Red Chillies – 10 to 12
  • Coriander Seeds – 1/2 cup.
  • Roast these to golden brown and grind to coarse powder.
  • For Kuzhambu:
  • Small Brinjal – 6 to 7
  • Tamarind juice – 2 cups( soak and extract tamarind juice)
  • Turmeric – pinch
  • Hing
  • Salt to taste
  • Gingelly Oil – 1/4 cup
  • Coconut oil – 1 tsp
  1. Cut Brinjals into four. do not cut till end.
  2. Stuff the grind masala powder and set aside.
  3. In a heavy-bottomed pan add gingelly oil.
  4. Add the brinjals. Close and cook on medium flame.
  5. Flip them after sometime and close it.
  6. Cook until brinjal is half done.
  7. Add tamarind extract, turmeric, salt and hong.
  8. Boil them for 20-25mins on medium flame.
  9. Once the gravy thickens add 3 tbsp of dry masala powder.
  10. Allow them to cook for 5mins on medium flame.
  11. Add a tsp of coconut oil and mix.
  12. Now temper the kuzhambu with the ingredients mentioned.
  13. Mix well and serve with hot white rice…
