Ingredients:

  • Rice flour – 3 cups
  • Moong dal flour – 1.5 cups ( dry roast 1.5 cup moong dal and grind to smooth powder.)
  • Urad flour – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Hing
  • Sesame seeds -2 tbsp
  • Chilli powder optional
  • Butter – 3 tbsp
  • Water to knead the dough
  1. In a bowl add rice flour, moong dal flour and urad dal flour.
  2. Add salt, hing, sesame seeds and red chilli powder. Mix well.
  3. Add butter and little water.
  4. Knead to smooth firm dough.
  5. Add the star mould to the presser and grease with oil.
  6. Add enough dough to the presser.
  7. Make small spiral murukku in a banana leaf or butter paper or directly on oil.
  8. Add enough oil to deep fry the murukku in a pan.
  9. Once it is hot slowly add one by one murukku.
  10. Fry golden both sides.
  11. Enjoy the crunchy munchy murukku.
  • Notes: If you add too much butter the murukku will be too soft and if you add less it will be little hard to bite. So always add perfect one
  • It is always better you taste the first murukku to make any adjustments, unless you make as offering to god.
