A Perfect home remedy for Cold and cough is Ginger rasam. It is a very good healthy recipe. This can be given to kids also. Ginger is also good for stomach ailments. Ginger rasam can be either mixed with hot white rice or served as soup. The flavour of fresh ginger adds delicious taste to the rasam.

Ingredients:

  • Tamarind Extract – 2 cups
  • Tomatoes – 2
  • Curry leaves few
  • Crushed ginger – 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric 1/4 tsp
  • Rasam Powder – 1.5 tbsp
  • Salt as required
  • Coriander leaves few
  • Ghee 1 tsp
  • Mustard 1 tsp
  • Water 2 cups
  1. Soak small gooseberry size tamarind in water and extract the juice.
  2. Add salt, tomatoes, turmeric, rasam powder, curry leaves and crushed ginger.
  3. Allow to them to boil for 10mins. Once boiled dilute with water and mix well.
  4. Do not boil after adding water. Turn off when you see frothy layer on the top of the rasam. Garnish with Coriander leaves.
  5. Add ghee and mustard in another pan and allow to splutter. Add the tadka to rasam.
  6. Serve hot rasam as soup or with white rice.
  • Note:
  • You can also pressure cook 2 tbsp of toor dal and add to rasam when diluting with water.
  • You can also add little jaggery.
  • You can also add crushed garlic 4-5 pods when adding ginger.
