Usili is one variety of upma that can be prepared in minutes with minimal ingredients. It can be served as quick lunch/dinner or even best for bachelors cooking. This is usually served with coconut chutney or kadalai paruppu/Chana dal chutney.

Ingredients:
- Rice – 1 cup
- Moong dal – 1/2 cup
- Green chillies – 4
- Coconut – 2 tbsp
- Chana dal and urad dal – 1 tsp each
- Curry leaves few
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Water – 2 cups
- Wash and soak rice and moong dal in a bowl and set aside.
- In a pressure cooker add oil. Once oil is hot add mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Add chana dal and urad dal. Fry them
- Add curry leaves and green chillies. Fry them for a minute.
- Add shredded coconut and fry.
- Add rice and moong dal to the cooker. Add water and mix well. Also add salt. Mix well.
- Close the lid and put whistle. Pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- Open and serve hot Usili.
- Note:
- Do not add too much water as it will make mushy.
- You can skip coconut or add at the end also.
- Dry red chillies can be used instead of green chillies.
