Adai is type of dosa but made with lentils and protein rich. It is very common in Tamil Nadu. My mom used to prepare sometimes with onion on it. The best combination for this is aviyal or honey or jaggery. My husband prefers with Sambar.

  • Serves: 10-12 adais.

Ingredients:

  • Rice – 1 cup
  • Toor dhall- 1/2 cup
  • Chana dhall- 1/2 cup
  • Dry red chillies – 8nos
  • Hing
  • Salt to taste.
  1. Soak rice, toor dhall, chana dhall and red chillies for 4 hours.
  2. Grind them to coarse batter along with salt and hing.
  3. Adjust the consistency and add water if needed.
  4. Pour a ladleful of batter on dosa tawa and add oil.
  5. Cook on both sides until crisp.
  6. Fold it and serve immediately.
  7. Serve adai with any chutney or sambar or jaggery.

Note:

  • You can add finely chopped onion or small onions.
  • For kids you can also add some shredded carrots, Spring onions etc. You can also add drumstick leaves.
  • If you grind it very smooth it wont be crisp. So try to grind coarse.
  • Remember to cook on medium flame always.
