Pulippu kootu | Chow Chow Pulippu Kootu | iyengar Pulippu Kootu| No onion no garlic recipe |

Pulippu kootu is authentic tambrahm recipe. It is no onion no garlic recipe. This kootu can be made with chow chow, pumpkin, potato, brinjal etc. The main ingredient is the masala powder.

Ingredients:

  • Chana dal 3/4th cup
  • Toor dal – 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric pinch
  • Gingelly oil few drops
  • Chow chow or any veggie – 1 cup.
  • Pressure cook all the ingredients for 3 whistles. Slightly mash it and set aside.
  • To roast and grind:
  • Coconut oil – 1 tsp
  • Coriander seeds- 1/2 tbsp
  • urad dal – 1/4tsp
  • chana dal- 3/4th tbsp
  • Red chillies – 5 to 6 coconut – 3 tbsp
  • Hing
  • Fenugreek 4 nos.
  • Roast all these ingredients in coconut oil and grind to powder. Mix the powder with the cooked dal nicely.
  • In a vessel add 2 cups of soaked and extracted tamarind juice.
  • Add salt, turmeric and jaggery. Mix well.
  • Add some pr- soaked(30mins) peanuts. Allow them to boil well.
  • Now add the pressure cooked dal and boil for 10mins.
  • To temper:
  • coconut oil- 2 tsp
  • mustard-1tsp urad dal and cumin – 1 tsp each
  • Curry leaves and red chillies.
  • Splutter and saute these and add to the kootu.
  • Serve with hot rice.
