Dal tadka is a popular gravy served in Indian restaurants. A combination of toor dal and moong dal. The main ingredient is the tadka which enhances the flavor. This recipe is butterly creamy and delicious too.

Ingredients:

  • To Pressure cook dal:
  • Toor dal and moong dal – 1/4th cup each or 1/2 cup both.
  • Turmeric – pinch
  • Salt – 1/4 tsp
  • water – 2 cups
  • Wash and pressure cook the dals with 2 cups of water, turmeric and salt. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  • For tadka:
  • Ghee – 3 tbsp
  • Dry Red chillies – 4
  • Cumin-1 tsp
  • Onion – 1 tbsp
  • Tomato – 1 tbsp
  • Ginger – 1 tsp
  • Garlic – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves Few
  • Turmeric – a pinch
  • Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Kasuri Methi – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
  1. In a pan add ghee, cumin, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
  2. Saute for a min.
  3. Add onions, tomatoes, ginger and garlic.
  4. Fry them for 2mins on medium flame.
  5. Add red chilli powder, turmeric, Kasuri Methi and coriander powder.
  6. Fry for 10mins.
  7. Now add the dal, salt and boil for few mins.
  8. Add coriander leaves and 1 tbsp of butter.
  9. Turn off the flame.
  10. Serve hot with hot rice.
