Paruppu thogayal | Paruppu thovaiyal | How to make easy Paruppu Thogayal | Dal Chutney |

Paruppu thogaiyal is one comforting food which goes good with Hot rice smeared with oil. Also it is best sides for rasam and vathakuzhambu. Milagu jeera rasam is the best combination for this.

  • Serves: 1 cup

Ingredients:

  • Toor Dal – 1.2 cup
  • Moon dal – 1tbsp
  • Red chillies – 5 to 6
  • Pepper – 1/2 tbsp
  • Dry Ginger/Sukku – a piece
  • Salt
  • Oil – 1tsp
  • Water to grind
  1. In a pan add oil. Once oil is hot add toor dal.
  2. Add dry red chillies, pepper and dry ginger/Sukku.
  3. Fry them until golden brown.
  4. Transfer to plate and cool down
  5. Add them to blender and grind to paste by adding little water.
  6. Transfer to bowl
  7. Serve them with hot rice or vathakuzhambu or rasam.
  • Note:
  • Adding Sukku is optional. As it is just dal, sukku helps to avoid gas problem.
  • You can also ad garlic if you prefer
  • Do not add too much of water. Else it will be chutney.
  • Adding moong dal helps to make the thogayal little creamy.
  • Also skip dry red chillies and increase amount of pepper.
  • Only if the thogayal is little spicy it will taste good. Else it will be bland.
  • Curry leaves are optional.
  • Do not store in fridge.
