Thattai is one main snack made during diwali or krishna jayanthi. It is so crispy and spicy. It is simple and easy to make.Please try this and share your feedbacks in the comment section below.

Ingredients:

  • Rice Flour – 1.5 cups
  • Urad dal flour – 1 tbsp
  • Hing
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Salt
  • Butter – 1/2 tbsp
  • Water to knead
  • Chana dal – 2 tbsp
  1. Soak chana dal in water for 30mins.
  2. In a bowl add rice flour, urad dal flour, hing, red chilli powder and salt.
  3. Add butter and soaked chana dal.
  4. Add water little by little and knead to soft dough.
  5. Make equal sized balls from the dough and set aside.
  6. Take ziploc cover and grease with oil.
  7. Flatten the ball with a flat cup gently. Alternatively press with finger also.
  8. Prick the thattai with a fork or toothpick.
  9. Now heat enough oil for deep frying.
  10. Drop the thattais one by one and fry them golden on both sides.
  11. Transfer them to plate once done.
  12. Store in airtight container.
  • Note:
  • You can add curry leaves when knead the dough.
  • Also grind green chillies and add instead of red chilli powder.
  • You can add either white or black sesame seeds
  • When frying the thattai the oil should be really hot.
