Tomato Garlic rasam | Simple garlic rasam | Pepper garlic rasam | Poondu rasam|

Rasam is one of the main meal in South India. It is either served with white rice or as soup. Rasam is considered to be best remedy for cold or stomach problems. Garlic has its own health benefits known for 100 years. Garlic is known as antibiotic and also helps in digestion. Pepper helps in cold and throat infections.   • Serves: 4 cups

Ingredients:

  • Garlic – 5 pods
  • Cumin seeds – 1tsp
  • Pepper – 1.5 tsp
  • Tamarind – Small gooseberry size
  • Tomato – 2 chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric Pinch
  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Mustard – 1 tsp
  • Water 2 cups
  1. Crush Garlic coarsely. Set aside.
  2. Grind pepper and cumin seeds in powder.
  3. Soak tamarind and extract juice.
  4. In a vessel add tamarind juice, tomatoes and turmeric.
  5. Add cumin pepper powder 2 tsp.
  6. Add Crushed garlic.
  7. Cook on medium flame.
  8. Add salt and mix well.
  9. Cook for about 6 mins.
  10. Dilute with water and mix well.
  11. Do not boil. Once frothy layer appears turn off.
  12. Add ghee and mustard. Allow it to splutter.
  13. Add the tadka to the rasam.
  14. Serve hot with white rice.
