Raw Mango dal or popularly known as Mamidikaya pappu is famous recipe of Andhra. It is made with raw mango, dal and spices. It tastes little tangy and spicy. Tastes good when served with hot rice or sometimes with chapathi too.

Ingredients:

  • Toor dal- 1/2 cup
  • Raw Mango- 1/2 cup( peel skin and cut to medium pieces.)
  • Green chillies- 5 to 6
  • Curry leaves few
  • Small onion- 1 cup
  • Tomato – 1
  • Garlic- 2 or 3 crushed.
  • Water-2 cups
  • Turmeric pinch.
  • Coconut oil -1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  • Cumin- 1 tsp
  • Red chillies -4
  • Salt as required
  1. In a pressure cooker or instant pot this recipe can be prepared. I did in instant pot.
  2. Add washed toor dal in the cooker.
  3. Add raw mango, green chillies, curry leaves, small onion, tomato and garlic.
  4. Add water and turmeric. Mix well.
  5. Also coconut oil to enhance the flavor.
  6. Close the lid and cook on high pressure for 9mins. If pressure cooker cook for 4 whistles.
  7. In separate pan add oil for tadka along with mustard seeds, cumin and red chillies. set aside.
  8. Once pressure cooker is done open and mash them well. Add the Tadka to the dal and also salt. Mix well.
  9. Serve them hot with white rice topped with ghee.
